“Chamber music does not have to sound stuffy or medieval; in actuality, the interplay between two or more musicians can...”
Stephanie Leontiev
While Stephanie is a pianist—she has graced the stage of Carnegie Hall—it’s her deep curiosity for culture and community that makes her the perfect curator. Classical music was woven into her childhood; she recalls queueing for nosebleed seats at La Scala aged 15 and a transformative experience watching Tosca in Italy at Puccini’s home. “Who said groupies are only for rockstars?” she asks. “Don’t be shy, storm backstage to celebrate the performers post-show.”
She adores the Southbank Centre and, of course, the “noble and beautiful” Wigmore Hall, which she finds has an “ethereal essence” with its church-like layout. As for the next-gen pianist to keep an eye on? Jeneba Kanneh-Mason. Stephanie recently caught a performance at Wigmore and, taking her own advice, snuck backstage to meet the rising star. Whether listening or playing, her heartstrings will always be tugged by Rachmaninoff and Chopin, and she is always excited to see Grieg on a concert program. Oh, the drama!
