“Contrarian take but I didn\'t find All My Sons all that great. Miller\'s sharp dialogue landed very well in parts...”
Victoria Alvarez-Rendueles
Vic comes from a household of opera lovers—her grandparents and parents are dedicated aficionados (their travel itinerary is basically dictated by what’s on and where), and she inherited their passion. La Traviata is an opera she could watch over and over: “It’s perfection from start to finish.” And a performance she’ll never forget is Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin at the Wiener Staatsoper in Vienna last year, an “unforgettable experience” she shared with her grandparents after having only seen it via Met Opera on Demand.
When asked for her favorite venue, Vic doesn’t hesitate: “Easy. The Royal Opera House. “The Victorian opulence of the crimson velvet seats and the soft glow of the lamps lining the gilded balconies makes it feel like you’re stepping back in time. It’s also the best place to people-watch.” Pre-show rituals include sharing finger sandwiches and champagne in the Paul Hamlyn Hall at the ROH. And if she’s riding solo: “Late-night moules-frites and red wine at Balthazar.” Vic’s ticket hack? “I’m a Friend of the ROH. For just under £10 a month, I get early ticket releases and access to cheap tickets for dress rehearsals, which are basically like the real thing.”
